And yes, I've started using more windows because there isn't a Lightroom for Linux (and yes, digiKam, BibleSoft and LightZone suck big time).. And, no buying a Mac isn't an option :)

Re: The Tao of Mac - Musings on Photo Galleries

Sure, but my views on Lightroom are a matter of public record (i.e., I find it bloated and unusable) and I'm already paying the dotmac tax anyhow... I'll add another footnote later.

Re: The Tao of Mac - Musings on Photo Galleries

About Flickr, you're missed two points here:
- It integrates easily with Lightroom (what, you're still stuck with iPhoto?) via the new export plugin
- The pro account has no upload limit. Yes, you pay for it, but it's a lot cheaper than the .mac account.

Re: The Tao of Mac - Musings on Photo Galleries

Basically, because it's incredibly crufty to install properly (i.e.,
with the right kind of extensions) and prone to security issues.

On 4 Feb 2008, at 02:11, "Disqus"

Re: The Tao of Mac - Musings on Photo Galleries

Hmm yeah I've been using (http://oroux.com/photo/) Gallery2 (http://gallery.menalto.com/), an open-source PHP web gallery, has gazillions of features including iPhoto and Aperture export plugins, tons of different themes, features etc.
Worth giving it a try.

Re: The Tao of Mac - Musings on Photo Galleries

why no php?

Re: The Tao of Mac - Musings on Photo Galleries

I think that there're two different problems.
The first one is the backend solution to choose.
The second, the client.

For the client, when I used it, I liked F-Spot, which has export plugins for picasa and flickr (among others but .mac I think).

For the backend, I'm still have doubts about what are really my requirements. I think it of a two features thing: the storage (with public/private access) and the content show.
The content display, I think that I would end doing myself (probably with seaside).
The storage is what I can't figure out right now which is the best approach.
I think that some of any of them, which supports "raw" upload (ie picasa/flickr/others?) should be good enough, if you can access your tagging/grouping information from the client-software and use it in the content-display solution (ie: your blog, wiki, whatever).

Thanks for the table!
